Cup Cozy Basket
Bye February! So far this year has been a large improvement over last year. I have been crocheting 2 Hours most days, while over lunch and watching Hulu or Netflex.

This month's WIPP, will be cup cozies. I am designing one. I will be sharing my progress on this post (hopefully daily).

Baraboo has one of the busiest State Parks in the Nation, with a lot of trails. The Ice Age Trail goes right through the park also. Also; the Baraboo Area has a lot of dog walkers. So I thought a Cozy that is also a Basket that can be hang from a belt or a fanny pack, would be an ideal thing to design and make for sale at Sunday Market.

To make it more basket like, I am putting a bottom and making the sides tall enough for a coffee traveling mug or sport bottle. It will have a built in handle, that a belt can go through. I am using a K (6.5 mm) Susan Bates Hook and Ribbon Yarn.

CUP COZY BASKET

Row 1: In either a Slip Knot Loop or Magic Circle, Chain 2 (1st dc), 7 dcs. - 8 dcs

I have a hard time with making a magic circle, so I usually just make a slip knot with a large loop. I am not surprised since most of the year was a dooser. There was some good things that happened.

My niece Zoe had her Bat Mitzvah, Which I am glad to say Zoe is one young woman who is intelligent and wise. I enjoyed selling at Baraboo's Sunday Markets I could attend. September was the last one, since October weather was pretty bad. It was a good selling day and bonus my sister Connie showed up.

I really appreciate how my sister Connie can handle hard stuff of life. Last April, the downstairs tenant of the 2 Flat my mother left Connie was murdered by her boyfriend. Connie drove out from California, stopping in Albuquerque see my father and his partner; to take care of getting the apartment ready for the next tenant. The nice thing was I got to spend some time with her, since the place is in Madison..

On the way back to California, Connie again stopped in Albuquerque to help deal with putting Laura my father's partner in Hospice care. Sorry to say Laura died within 2 weeks of being placed in the Hospice. On her trips to take care of new tenants for her rentals in Nashville and the Upstairs of the Madison flat she stop in Albuquerque and helped my father with various things. I wished I could have been more of a help.

Most of the 2023 for me was dealing with what we believe now was Stress Related illness for my husband. I appreciate the grocery store, we shop at most of the time for caring and being very helpful. They had to call in the EMT several times, because of spells that Ray had while shopping. The first time I was grateful because it got Ray to be checked by a Doctor.

Ray was diagnosed with High Blood Pressure. For while there he was prod and scan for various things. All things came back normal for his age. I must say so far this year he seems to be getting back to his old self.

Now to get back to what I am doing crochet wise or Cloakroom stuff. This is because both Ray and I found the bucket seats of our SUV were uncomfortable for us. We find both of our butts tend to sink down. The pillows help to raise us up properly. Whoever designed the buckets seats must have been tall and lean, because they sure are not comfortable for this middle age short person.

The pattern is my own design. I choose to do the fronts a 4x4 Waffle Stitch using Triple Crochet Post Stitch. The back is Double Crochet Stitch. I am adding a strap on the second to hold the pillow in place. After I finish the strap on the 2nd Pillow, I will be adding strap on the 1st Pillow.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-52761856818851186992022-11-01T14:50:00.000-07:002022-11-01T14:50:03.038-07:00November Brings New Beginnings
The last few months have been quite Topsy-Turvy for me. Because of the way things were going for Thrifty Prints, Inc., we decided it was time to quit the printing part of Thrifty Prints. The last straw for my husband was the Printing Press breaking down, which brought on some stress health issues. Since we made the decision and subsequently after we got a handle on shutting down printing part of business; Ray has perked up more.

We both are looking forward to new enterprises. Ray's is Thrifty Ray's Worm Farm and Rabbit Ranch. He has had earthworms for a few months now. Last month we went up and picked up a young Doe and Buck Florida White Rabbits. While, I am planning to make Cloakroom Creations more than a "Egg-Basket" Business.

Last Sunday was my second Baraboo Downtown's Sunday Market. (Yes, that is Ray setting there) I did not sell anything, but I am taking it as a very good learning experience. I differently will be back to sell next spring to sell at the Sunday Market. The Markets are on the Last Sunday of Every Month, from May to October. From what I saw, is that the vendors who have been selling for quite awhile, had built up a cliental. My neighbors at the left was selling soy-based candles, and I noticed that they were selling to previous customers.

Which makes me think that maybe I should sell, other things besides crochet items. Like other then crochet craft kits. As a child coming to age in the 70's, crafts were a big thing. Since it seems like 70's have become the vintage era, these days. I thought; Why don't I bring back some of those crafts that I enjoyed. I have mind of one now, but I will keep it quiet until I get the kinks out.

Yesterday, I posted on Facebook the Rustle Park Sun Hats that I have in my Etsy Shop. Since, yesterday and today's mail brought no mail for TPI to take care of, tomorrow I will probably again post more things I have to sell on Facebook, before posting them in my Etsy Shop. I am hoping to do more of this in the coming days.

Now to update on what my WIPP are that I have not said... September's is Back Scrubbers, October's is Draft Stoppers and this months Baskets.

Well, it is getting late and so until next time be well and safe. Hope you all had a Great Halloween.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-63825020675093310472022-08-21T15:27:00.000-07:002022-08-21T15:27:53.033-07:00Continuing Being Topsy-Turvy
I keep trying to get blogs out in the beginning of the month. But with the way my life is it ends up being late in the month or into the next month. I guess that is Life!😆

For the last several months, I have been using Sundays as my getting Cloakroom stuff done. I do this lazy, so it is restful than stressful.

This morning while watching CBS Sunday Morning and having a very slow Sunday Brunch, I crocheted on some more of the Pillow-top. Today, I have also made the decision to go with Venmo as my Payment App to take for payments. I even have the downloaded Venmo App on my Phone.

I have decided to forgo this years WIPP theme of housewares this month. Since August seems to be the month when Catnip is headed out perfect for toys, I will be making catnip toys, that is until the catnip around here is gone. Then I will change August WIPP to Pet stuff. I have made several of the Octo Cat Nip Toy, a Ruthie Smith design, so far.

I have finished one Sunny Garden Area Rug, a Tracee Fromm design. I am almost finished another one.

Also this afternoon, I email the Downtown Baraboo about being a vender for Last Sunday of the month Market. I am hoping that this Sunday can try to sell my wares at the Market. That is why I decided on the Venmo App.

I choose Venmo because the App and set-up is free. The transaction fees are low. They are connected to PayPal.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-67212405689732126342022-07-02T15:18:00.002-07:002022-07-02T15:18:39.960-07:00A Bit of Autobiography
It has been a very Topsy-Turvy May and June for me. I meant to get out this blog at each month. However; when I meant to start a new blog post, I see that I let time slip by and did not get to it. It does not help that I am still in the midst of dealing with work for Thrifty Prints, even if both Printing and the inner circle Mail Order industries are down in the dumps.

It is very bittersweet for me that Thrifty Prints is on a down turn. It is hard to give up something you have done all your adulthood (43 years in my case), even thou you are burnt out.

I was just 19 when we started Thrifty Prints, Inc. I met Ray at Madison Area Technical College (which now is Madison College) in the Graphic Arts program. We sat by each other from the first day and nobody was surprised when we came back from Winter break and were engaged.

When I went in to the Printing Program at MATC, I had just spent the previous year at an Alternative High School program. It was at Woolman Hill a Quaker Educational Retreat just up the road from historical Deerfield, Massachusetts.

I came to Woolman Hill to work on to be ready to take the GED. Which I did and got high scores on each test. Since I had enough High School credits from my Freshman and Junior years of going to Malcolm Shabazz High School, that I was granted a Wisconsin High School Diploma. Shabazz was at the time was one of the two public alternative schools in Madison, Wisconsin.

Between Woolman Hill and Shabazz, I lived with my sister Connie in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. While their I did my Junior year at Carolina Friends School. I believe my dream as a Toy Maker got it blossomed when I was at CFS.

I remember when I was going to Shabazz I made washcloth puppets and cat toys and tried to sell them at a flea market. Only had a little success at it.

While I was on the Hill, I wrote to several toy companies seeing if they had a Toy Maker apprentice program, No such luck. So, when I got accepted to MATC for the fall of 1978, I had to decide between Woodworking and Printing programs. After talking it over with my Father, I decided that I would go for printing. Since, I had experience with all kinds of woodworking through doing things with my father, class at CFS and being on the carpentry gang at the Hill.

I was thinking that I would use my experiences in Graphic Arts to make Printed Paper Toys. Which I giving great thought of doing again under Cloakroom Creations. Along with more crocheted toys.

I started Cloakroom Creations about 10 years ago as an "Egg Basket" Hobby Business. That is I started it to help support my crochet expenses.

My interest in Crochet and crafts started when I was ten. Arts and crafts is way for me to help deal with the hard and good times of life. Crochet is my main craft and stress reliever.

May's WIPP is Plant Hangers. I had a commission for them from the owner of Eclectic Treasures for some for her office place. I started with Rosa Plant Hangers by Kristi Simpson from Happily Hooked Issue #64 July 2019. Then I went to Hanging Herb Holder a Design by Salena Baca from Happily Hooked Issue #17 - August 2015.

June's WIPP is Give Yourself A Hand Oven Mitt a Cara Louise Reitbauer from Pattern Pack Pro Issue November 2019. I really love doing these in the past and have given them as gifts.

This month's (July) WIPP is rugs or mats. Starting with Sunny Garden Area Rug a Tracee Fromm design from HH VIP Exclusive June 2022.

Wishing those who sees this before 4th of July… Have A Safe and Pleasant Holiday Weekend.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-47205916195697813502022-04-21T15:56:00.000-07:002022-04-21T15:56:49.430-07:00Wow! But, this month I even finished 2 days ahead of time. I took pictures of each progress of WIPPs as I finished them for the 12th round. Starting with this months WIPP here are the photos of each WIPP.

Reusable Dust Mop Cover a design By Julie Forsey found in Happily Hooked Issue #85 - April 2021

I am about 1/2 way on the length I need for this first one. The cotton I am using is Premier Cone. I have used other colors of this brand. I find that White Premier Cotton does tend to split very badly. I am glad that this is my sample to try out and not one I am going to sell.

On this sample I am using a 4.5 mm or Size 7, Tunisian hook instead of the Size I/9 or 5.5 mm. My plans are to try and see if I can tighten up the space of larger hooks. For other samples.

Bathroom Organizer a design by Ana Dyakova found in Happily Hooked Issue #33 - December 2016

On this second version, I have gotten the bottom pocket done and divided lines sewed in. On this version instead of double crochet the 17th and 34th stitch I chained twice on the Back from Bottom to the 13th row and 17th to the 25th rows. On the pockets I did middle of the 3rd & 6th fan on the odd rows. This made for an easy to line-up for sewing up the divisions. However today and yesterday is more like a Lion it is grey and damp.

This month my WIPP is Dust Mop Covers. The pattern I am using is a Design By Julie Forsey. Which was in Issue #85 - April 2021 of Happily Hooked Magazine - www.happilyhooked.com. Reusable Mop Cover. This pattern is introducing me to Tunisian Knit Stitch. I have done the regular Tunisian Stitch. I am glad to try this stitch out. It was hard getting grasp on it at first, but I think I got it now.

Monday, we stopped by the local Dollar Tree and brought a dry/wet mop head & handle to test out the mop cover sample and to use as a prop. We also brought more hangers to use for last month's WIPP which was Bathroom Organizer a design by Ana Dyakova from Issue #33 December 2016 of HHM.

Talking about the Bathroom Organizer I finished one, last week and have started a new one. I used Caron Big Donut. I found this yarn is a bit stretchy. So, for the second one I am using Red Heart Super Saver.

On the second one of the Bathroom Organizer, I am lacing up left over slices of yarn, when I am stitching to help show where the partitions of the pockets go. I think I will also wait to put the pockets in, instead of doing it when I finish the pocket part. This way I can make a neater border around the whole Organizer. Instead doing Double Crochet at the ends I am chaining the stitch up instead making this easier to crochet around.

I am thinking of doing these in School Colors. I am thinking that these would be perfect for students who live in dorms or for people who share bathrooms. I am also thinking of adding a hammock pocket that will be swinging from the hanger part.

I am still working on the first pillow, which is January's WIPP. I am working on the backside now.

I also reopened my Etsy shop on Feb. 26th with my first listing. Listing on Etsy. So happy Twos Day! Also Happy Groundhog Day. Our local Groundhog Sun Prairie Jimmy did not see his shadow this morning. So if he is right our area should have a welcomed Early Spring.

I have made a decision that my WIPPs for this year will be based on Household Items. I am feeling like it is a "nesting" situation. Brought on by this pandemic feeling like that need of comfort items around the house myself that I have made.

Will I got the front side with space for the pocket finished and am working on the panel to back up the front one.

This month's WIPP is Bathroom Organizer a design by Ana Dyakova that is Decembers 2016 Happily Hooked magazine. I mainly choose this, because I would love to find a space organizer for all the little stuff in my own bathrooms.

It is getting late, so until next time stay safe and warm.
CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-58527640349041288942022-01-06T15:33:00.000-08:002022-01-06T15:33:01.002-08:002022 New Year Resolution
I have really only one main resolution every year. That is not to Label myself or others into groups. One of my pet peeves is to be labeled or judged by others for what might or might not be my beliefs, values, politics, lifestyle, sex, etc. So I try not to do it to others.

The one thing about having mutual interests in things, like the needle arts is that you meet different people from all sorts of backgrounds. I find if you look at a person as an individual, minus their background, you might learn something about why they think the way they do. A lot of times you will find that you agree more about things then you would expect.

I have found from being in groups of people with different backgrounds you find you can talk about a lot of things that are common to everyone, that does not involve hot topics such as politics and religion. And even if hot topics do come up, if you keep your cool and listen with an open heart you can find some times something you can agree upon.

My 2022 Work-In-Progress-Projects, starts with Pillows. I am adapting the first few pillows is to have a pocket where feet can be put into. Both Ray and I get cold feet in the winter. With a pocket to put your feet into you get the warmth plus an comfortable padded place to put your feet while you work at the desk.

My first pillow is Saint Jo Pillow designed by Erin Medley for June 2018 Pattern Pack Pro. The yarn I am using is Red Heart Super Saver Powder Blue. I got the Yarn from Family Thrift & Variety Store, in Baraboo, WI. I paid $10 for 2 Jumbo Yarn, came with a Jumbo double crochet hook.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-71775040914315375432021-11-14T16:03:00.000-08:002021-11-14T16:03:27.379-08:00
November: Scrubbies

November's WIPP is Scrubbies. It has been a while since I made scrubbies for washing dishes. About ten years ago Scrub Yarns came out, and they make the most wonderful scrubbies to wash dishes, wipe down counters, etc.

Scrubbies was often requested for by my Mother. For some reason she preferred them to be red. On one of the many trips with my Mother when she made her annual visit we went to Stevenspoint, WI. On that trip we went to see a marvelous exhibition about John Muir at UW-Stevenspoint. While in Stevenspoint we stop in at Herrschners. Mother had to make sure I brought some Red Scrubby Yarn to make some red scrubbies.

I brought the Stitchin Crochet Pro Font from Adiprints to help me design patterns using my skills as a Graphic Artist. Which I used on the below pattern. Excuse the roughness of the graphics. It has been a while since I used Adobe Illustrator.

This pattern was designed by me in tribute to my Mother.

If you have any suggestions on how I can improve on writing this pattern, please feel free to tell me.

Hope everybody has a Safe and Pleasant Thanksgiving and Holiday Season.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-38667742074356961632021-10-12T12:54:00.002-07:002021-11-05T15:05:41.416-07:00How My Relationship with my Mother affected My Life, including Crocheting.
This post is mainly going off the topic of my usual posts. I hope for understanding if I use this blog to open up. Please show me respect by not openly criticize me or others. If you have to criticize in any thing I say please do it privately. Thank You.

This week I am preparing a postponed Celebration of Life for my Mother this Saturday. The thing about Memorials, Celebration of Life, or Funerals is that it is still not "politically correct" to talk about the negative aspects of the deceased one. I hope that it never does become "politically correct" to do so.

So, I am using this platform in hope that it helps others that it is okay to openly talk about both the good and bad aspects of a deceased one, especially if it is a family member. I hope that others feel as I do that blogs are a good place to open up about how a deceased one affected their lives. That it can be a safe place for one to express themselves without being condemned for their personal feelings about the deceased one.

My mother was one of those people who was very educated intelligence wise. She was very passionate and very learned in various things. Which she was very generous to share with others. I pick up a lot of these passions and proud of them.

My Mother had some mental issues that cause her ability to keep other peoples boundaries or realize other people opinions are just as good as hers. There were times she showed aggression and had rages.

The effects of these rages on me were mentally verbal then physical. Some of the effects have affected how I deal with others.

One effects I found is that my habit for over compensating and over telling others what I think their problems are. I have been trying to break myself of this habit, since it can affect my ability to deal with hard to deal with people. This especially true with customers.

It was very hard to be around her and did cause me to be tense up even before I would be near her. This is because, I was on guard to make sure that she did not negatively effect me mentally. And even her being dead for two years, I can still feel it in my bowel movements and feel my blood pressure go up when I feel negative thoughts or vibes from others about her.

I feel very blessed that I could be forgiving of her faults, so that I could enjoy the parts that were good. Even thou it was hard work on ones mental state to do it. Because forgiving does not mean that you need to forget. It just helps to come up with personal tools/skills on how to make sure ones is okay, when dealing with a loved one like my mother.

One blessing I have is I have found Arts and Crafts as my way of dealing with stress and way to deal with the efforts mother had on me. This is true especially with crocheting. When I was a teenager and was last of her children who lived with her, it was my drawings. The way I drew it was an escape too another world for me.

Funny thing is the drawings and lot of the things I crocheted her came from dealing how she affected me. Like the Bed Spread that I blogged about in December 2011. I know it was a comfort to her when she was down about how her behavior effected her children. I am glad that it did. Because as a person she deserved to feel loved and be respected even if she had problems.

I feel she was blessed to have Friends and Admirers who knew her and respected her. Especially those who saw her at her worse and could forgive her faults.

I was more disappointed in her then sad when she put and end to her life. To me it was another disappoint in how she did not keep a responsibility to others.

UPDATE: Sunday, October 17th

It went well yesterday. The day began meeting My sister at the local Farmer's Market where we got some Muffins. Then Connie and I stopped at a local Orchard, where we picked up some Cherry Cider. On the spar of moment, we decided that it was the time and place to scatter Mother's ashes in one favorite of her hiking spots in the area.

Which I am glad we did. It just felt right to do it at that time and place. It turned out to be a great relief off me.

Then we were off to the Park Hall to have the Celebration of Life. It turned out to be a very small group, due to the postponement due to Covid. Most of the people there were her friends and admirers. There was even one person who never met her, but was appreciative of her work as a historian of buildings.

Today, I am pretty much recovering from the emotional drain of the day and leading up to it. So, I am taking it easy and letting myself a day before getting back to my daily routine of life.
CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-34260056326508863222021-10-02T15:10:00.000-07:002021-10-02T15:10:37.776-07:00
SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER 2021

Sorry last month, I was busy getting preparing for my Father's 90th Birthday Celebration. Starting with Catnip Toys. This year's catnip toys are going to be mostly OctoCat Nip Toy a Ruthie Smith Design.

My not so secret about catnip toys is using the seed heads as part of the catnip stuffing. It is the gold of catnip. My own design is not so big, so with the OctoCat I am adding a bit of stuffing to keep it going flat from the catnip drying.

With both the printing and inner circle mail order industries are in decline. It has made Thrifty Prints more of a hobby business for my husband Ray and I. Since this happening we are going more towards a semi-retirement incomes.

Mine is getting more into production mode for Cloakroom Creations. Ray is hoping to get a new business venture called Thrifty Ray's Worm and Rabbit Ranch. We both hope to incorporate the use of Thrifty Prints time to time.

It is hard for both of us to give up Thrifty Prints altogether after 42 Years coming up this Friday (the 13th). But, both of us are eager to start our new ventures.

It is not new for either of us to start business ventures on a shoe string. We started Thrifty Prints with a little over $1,000 in a 10x50 Mobile Home. One of our wedding presents was a Offset Printing Press. So, we both know what is a head of us in away.

Until next time, Keep Yourself and Others safe.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-62020685878374291972021-07-18T15:59:00.000-07:002021-07-18T15:59:05.836-07:00JUNE AND JULY 2021
I hope everyone has been having a better June and July then I have been having. On June 1st my 2009 Apple Mini decide to go on the Blitz. It took me three exhausting weeks to get it back up. That include dealing through the internet help. After about the week and half, I decided to order MAC OS on thumb drive from E-Bay to get it reprogramed back up. The reason is that Apple has decided to make it almost impossible to download old OS programs.

After, I got it finally up … I found that some important Graphic Arts Software did not work, I need this for my main occupation as the Typesetter and Computer person for Thrifty Prints, Inc. So back on E-Bay and brought myself a copy of Adobe Creative Suite 5.5. Which is the last suite that you can get of Adobe software that is not a subscription service.

Also, the thumb drive I had all Cloakroom and years of Thrifty Prints orders decided not to work. (I have found over the years that thumb drive is a hit and miss to work.) So now I am using the external hard drive that I got to back-up, I am using to keep the files on from now on. And I got another external hard drive that has more memory to use with Apple's back-up time machine.

Will I finally got caught up enough today. That I felt like maybe I can put a lot of more energy into Cloakroom. Which includes this blog.

June's WIPP is Bags. The last past weeks I have been working on Andi Produce Bags designed by Amber Bliss Calderon. Theses bags are very open lace work.

July's WIPP is Kitchen/Barbecue wares. Starting with Oven Mitt from a design by Cara Louise Reitbauer. These oven mitts are done with a stitch which is called a thermal stitch and it is like doubling up while crocheting.

Will I am getting punch happy here, so I think I will rap it up now. Hope to have another post early in August.

CloakroomCreationshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07202347647324429112noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590436592885855219.post-44591149559977017662021-05-01T15:57:00.000-07:002021-05-01T15:57:06.110-07:00Happy May Day!
Hope April Showers brought you many May Flowers this year! To pick up a new one. When we pulled into the parking space in front of the Radio Shack, we saw a group of people going in. So we went across the street to Eclectic Treasures, where we found out that I sold one of the Mannequin Heads for $15.00. Shop owner said I should make some more. Since I also sold 1 at Baraboo Vintage back in August. I thought it would be good to have as my WIPP (Work In Progress Project) for this Month It will be the Marcia Garcia-Tello design of Mannequin Heads with my twist with putting a face on them.

I am going to finish the Infant size one that I have not finish from 2020 January's WIPP. A lot has happened in the last 9 years.

One of the most bittersweet things that happen is that my Mother decided to end her life in August 2019. It is hard for me to call it suicide exactly, since she had made it as a plan. She had decide that when her body started to give out in her opinion, that she would end it. I was more upset by her selfishness, then I am sad about. It was another disappointment to me in a long line, through our relationship.

Enough said. On to what my plans are…

In the past years I have had a WIPP: Work-In-Progress Project for every month. 2021 is not going to be any different. Starting with January, WIPP is a Design by Heidi Hegel Neiling; Lace Tent from Happy Hooking Magazine #78 Outdoors Sept. 2020. I chose to do this as the first because, of the time it is going to take to do just one of these. It will probably take me more then a year to do just one.

The way I do my WIPPs is that each month I start a new rotation of projects. For example: Today, I will start by doing 1 row of a test stitch gauge of the pattern for the Lace Tent. Tomorrow, I will do 2 rows of the Lace Tent, and 1 row of December's WIPP (Which is pillows). On the 3rd it will be 3 rows of the tent, 2 rows of Pillow and 1 row of November's WIPP (Which is Fingerless/Texting Gloves), etc. To not get myself in a tease, I let go at a certain point in doing a certain amount every day. And just do it by rotation.

My Hopes for this Blog, Facebook Page, Etc.…

Is too at least beginning very month, I will blog about how my WIPPs are doing and what is the one for that month. My Father turned 80, last September (2001), we had quite a Birthday Bash for him. So, as part of his Birthday, I decided to make him a pair of socks out of Lion Brand Recycled Yarn. I did not finished them until April. And to honor Him on this Father's Day, I thought I will finally write a post on making of these socks.

Since this is Father's Day (June 17, 2012) I will tell you one of the good things that my father did for us three kids. My Sister Connie was the oldest, then my brother Dan came 2 years after her and I came 2 years after him. Until I was about 8 or 9 I was known as Lynnie. My father use to tell us stories when we were very young of the adventures of Connie, Danny and Lynnie.

Best Father and Daughter times for me was when we were working on something together. It could be doing something like putting a wood floor on his old VW Beetle. However; I think the most important times was in making sure that I learn my telephone number and the Basic Math Skills.

I was lucky to grow-up when Reel-to-Reel Tape Recorders were around. My father set-up his Reel-to-Reel with a on going loop. He had me record our telephone number on to that loop and that is how I memorized it. I believe I also learned the times table using that same method. Later on he taught me how to use a Sliding Ruler. Having the basic math skills down, helped me to score very high on my GED Math Test… even thou I did not have some of the higher Math Classes.

When I had a decision to make between Woodworking and Printing programs at Madison Area Technical College, he influence my decision in taking Printing, since I already had some skills on woodworking. I have never regretted that decision. Since that is where I met my Husband and partner in business,

This is the same pattern that is mention in the previous blog, Cropped Bomber Jackets. The original pattern was on the front cover of Crochet, September 2002 Issue. The Designer is Darla Sims. My main variation of Ms. Sims design was to add stripes into the pattern, instead of being a solid color (white).

On number 3 & 4, I added the variation of having a single crochet border edging to the body before putting on the ribbing, which made a border on between the pattern of the body and the ribbing.

On this version I did another variation. Which I will go into later on.

The yarns I used on this sweater is Bernat Satin. The below picture shows the colors in detail.
In this Post I am going to describe my progress of making this bag. Sometime, in the future I will do a post on how I got to making this type of bag.

However; I will tell you that I keep trying to improve on the design of my filet crochet bags. The changes in this bag from my other bags is I put D-Rings and Hooks, Made a Longer Drawstring so to make it more of a knapsack then the other bags. I also change the stitch I use on the drawstring.

From the May 2007 issue of Games Magazine I took the picture of the Taxi from Paint By Numbers section and turned it into a pattern for filet crochet bag. Plus I add 2 Blocks per Row and Column to make 1 solid Block Border and 1 Open Space Block Border round the picture.Making the following…
Open Block is DC (double crochet American) Ch (Chain) DC
25 Blocks + 4 Blocks = 29 Blocks per Horizontal Row
35 Blocks + 4 Blocks = 39 Blocks per Vertical Column

So the foundation row is (29 x 2) + 1 = 59 chain stitchs

Then I single/long single crochet a round the bottom edges of the 2 sides, before beginning the bottom of bag, which is done in single crochet rows.

After, doing the bottom I crochet the edge of the bottom and the other side edge of the first side. The third side is done on a vertical bias.

As with the other finished sides I crochet the edging of the third side.

The last side is done on a horizontal bias. At the end and beginning of each row I connected the other sides. Also at the beginning of the last side I crocheted the 2 D-rings in place.
This top is done in the round. The last Row is not done in Solid Blocks it is actually done With Open Block and Solid Block, repeating. Also, instead of Double Crochet, I do Triple Crochet. This makes it so I can put through the drawstring. I also this time I single crochet the top before making the draw string.

This bag was began with Black and White Double Strand Thread. Which is no longer being made. So I used Black and White #10 thread to finish up.

One Tip I learned using #10 thread in a cone I learned on this project is to turn the cone on its flat side and put it in an empty coffee can. This helps to avoid tangling of the yarn.
